AltoDocs
AltoDocs plugins

From your chat
to a real document.

From load data to a beam check, a sketch and a saved report. Ask in your assistant. Review in AltoDocs. Revise from either place.

Recorded live in ChatGPT and AltoDocs. Create a report, open its editable calculations, then revise the same beam from chat. Waiting time is shortened; no narration.
01

Ask for the report.

“Use these loads to check my beam.” Save the assumptions, MathCanvas calculation, beam model and loading sketch together.

02

Open the link.

See the results in chat. Open the link to inspect the actual report, calculations and editable beam in AltoDocs.

03

Keep talking.

“Make the span 7 metres.” Recalculate the same beam, compare deflection and utilisation, then open the updated section.

Get started

Choose your plugin.

You’ll need an AltoDocs account and a project. Editing requires active editing access in AltoDocs. Your assistant’s plan and workspace settings must allow custom plugins.

Tested plugin

ChatGPT

Set up AltoDocs once, then use it from your conversations.

https://app.altodocs.io/mcp
  1. Open ChatGPT’s custom plugin/MCP setup, if available to your account.
  2. Name it AltoDocs, paste the URL and choose OAuth.
  3. Sign in to AltoDocs, choose projects and enable the plugin in your chat.
Open ChatGPT ChatGPT setup help

Custom setup is tested. Directory listing is in review; not publicly listed yet.

Claude

Connect AltoDocs and choose which projects Claude can use.

https://app.altodocs.io/mcp
  1. Open Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  2. Name it AltoDocs, paste the URL and use automatic OAuth registration when offered.
  3. Sign in to AltoDocs, choose projects and enable it in your chat.

Your first message

List my AltoDocs projects. Create a sample report for a 6 m simply supported, continuously restrained IPE 270 S355 beam. Use downward total line loads G = 6 and Q = 4 kN/m, with no added self-weight, explicit ULS 1.35G + 1.5Q, SLS G + Q and an L/300 deflection limit. Include a MathCanvas worksheet, native beam and editable loading sketch. State assumptions and unavailable checks. Read it back and give me the beam preview and link.

Can’t find the setup option? Check your assistant’s plan or ask your workspace administrator. Get setup help.

What can I do with the plugin?

Find, read, create and update native AltoDocs reports with text, tables, MathCanvas worksheets, AltoBeam models and editable loading sketches. Check deflection and supported steel utilisation; show saved beam and sketch previews in chat. Get links to documents and individual sections. You choose the projects it can access, and your existing permissions still apply.

Your assistant can prepare CSV, spreadsheet or Python results with its own tools, then pass the values to AltoDocs. The plugin does not fetch external files, run arbitrary Python, upload files, export PDFs, change sharing or edit standalone spreadsheets and CAD drawings.

Each beam uses the shared AltoBeam solver. Your assistant must explicitly update related worksheet and sketch values; blocks are not automatically linked. Checks depend on the supplied modelling assumptions and available design information. Read the technical documentation.

More prompts to try

Turn supplied data into a report

Use the data I supplied in this conversation to create a load summary in my AltoDocs project. Include a table, the source names and my assumptions. Save it, read it back, and give me the document link.

See what a longer span changes

Change the beam span in my AltoDocs report from 6 m to 7 m. Update supports, load extents, the worksheet, sketch and L/300 limit. Recompute the ULS and SLS combinations. Read back the saved results and link to the beam. Explain whether strength or deflection governs.

Keep the calculation with the explanation

Add a worksheet to my AltoDocs report defining q = 12 kN/m, L = 6 m and M = q × L² / 8, with M displayed in kN m. Save the expressions, read them back and give me the worksheet link. State the assumptions.

What happens in the video?
  1. Ask ChatGPT’s AltoDocs plugin to create a 6 m roof beam report with supplied loads and explicit assumptions.
  2. See the saved preview and results in chat: 13.88 mm deflection against a 20 mm limit, with bending and shear checks passing.
  3. Open the document link. Inspect the native beam’s section, supports and loads, its MathCanvas expressions and the editable loading sketch.
  4. Close the document and ask ChatGPT to change the span to 7 m in the same report.
  5. Read the recalculated comparison and open the updated beam: deflection is 25.71 mm against 23.33 mm, while supported bending and shear checks still pass.

A real browser screen recording in light mode, edited to shorten waits and focus on the controls. No generated responses, still-image scenes or voiceover. The sample assumes continuous lateral restraint and the stated load combinations; unavailable design checks are recorded in the report.
